NEWS Computer hardware dealer Compusolve Innovations has launched a stand alone terminal offering Internet access and email in public places, including libraries, supermarkets and pubs. John Absell-Maurice, marketing and sales director of Compusolve, told silicon.com that the WebStation is aimed at inexperienced computer users. He said: "The idea came originally from a few teenagers who wanted to send emails and surf the Net but could not afford to buy PCs." The price of the service is £1 for 10 minutes and users pay by inserting coins into a slot. Compusolve expects to sell £2,500 WebStations and each will be leased for £5 a day by independent agents. When the machine is not in use, it will run advertisements. Selling advertising on screen will be the main income for the agents, according to Compusolve's Absell-Maurice.
