EC threatens legal action over Oftel inaction

By Sarah Left, 23 May 2000 11:45

NEWS The European Commission may take Oftel to court over allegations the regulator is not enforcing the right of new telecoms companies to piggyback on the networks of mobile phone incumbents. The Commission claims that the British government is breaching the Telecoms Directive by failing to champion the right of new telecoms entrants. The UK regulator must explain its position, and if the Commission is not satisfied, the case could be brought to the European Court of Justice.
