NTL unveils free ecommerce package for SMEs

By Lisa Burroughes, 23 May 2000 11:56

NEWS NTL has launched an ecommerce service aimed at small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) that enables them to build a Web storefront free of charge. SMEs can create their own Web site including trading facilities, hosted on the NTL server, by downloading software from the operator. However, when the site is expanded beyond a basic storefront and services such as transaction facilities for multiple products are added, the customer will have to pay. The service is part of a drive to boost NTL's business customer base. Meanwhile, NTL remains tight-lipped over press speculation it is in talks with Dixons to buy UK ISP Freeserve. Other companies rumoured to be in acquisition talks for Freeserve include the German ISP T-Online.
