NEWS KPNQwest has signed a letter of intent with France Telecom to begin ADSL trials in Paris from 3 July. Over 60 companies in the Ile de France area will test the high-speed Internet access, closely watched by French telecom regulator ART. KPNQwest has already rolled out ADSL in Finland and is currently undergoing trials to provide the German city of Dusseldorf with services. The Dutch company's partnership with France Telecom marks the latest in a series of investments in France to offer citizens broadband access to the Internet. It is currently installing 1080km of fiber optic cables from Bordeaux to Paris via Nantes, Rouen and Rennes as part of a E400m (£250m) investment in France. KPNQwest is also set to open CyberCentre with IBM in Paris to host sites and Web applications for French companies. The centre is due to open this autumn.
