Suzanna Kerridge, Paris correspondent

NEWS France Telecom has confirmed it will bid for an Italian UMTS licence with telco Wind. A spokesperson for France Telecom said the two companies would enter a joint bid when the licences become available. Wind is currently owned 24.5 per cent by private capital, 51 per cent by Enel and 24.5 per cent by Deutsche Telekom. However, Deutsche Telekom said it would also enter a separate bid with Telecom Italia after the company formed an alliance in spring last year.
