French Council of State blocks websites' TV adverts

NEWS The French Council of State has overturned the audio-visual regulator's ruling allowing companies to advertise websites on television. In a statement, the Council of State said the Higher Council of Audio-visual (CSA) had acted incompetently. The ruling follows the intervention of government commissioner Frederic Salat, who asked the Council of State to annul the decision, claiming the CSA had exceeded its legal boundaries. The Council said the CSA was not qualified to make the decision and was in direct contravention of a 1992 decree banning certain types of advertising on television. The decision by the Council of State brings to a close six months of discussions. The CSA declined to comment.
