CNET splashes out $1.6bn on Ziff-Davis

NEWS Online news provider CNET is buying rival service Ziff-Davis for an estimated $1.6bn. The deal is subject to shareholder approval but the companies expect to close the deal in the fourth quarter of this year. Ziff runs Computer Shopper magazine as well as online news services. CNET is reporting that president Richard Marino will become chief operating officer of the new company.
