NEWS French portals Wanadoo and Yahoo! are the most popular sites in France, according to the latest survey by European research house MediaMetrix. France Telecom's Wanadoo registered 1.9 million users closely followed by Yahoo!'s 1.6 million. However, the portal to make the most progress was Free, France's latest free ISP, who in one month moved from number seven to the third most popular site. Over 200,000 new users registered with Free in 30 days bringing its total monthly traffic to 1.2 million visitors. Meanwhile, the survey reveals that AOL lost 7.9 per cent of its visitors dropping to one million users. Microsoft was the only other site to report a downward trend, down four per cent to 6.45 million. According to the report, Microsoft managed to keep its visitors thanks to the default of Internet Explorer within Microsoft's Windows software. Bottom of the table at number ten was Club Internet.
