London Underground gets digital surveillance system

NEWS The London Underground (LU) has signed a £6.5m contract with systems integrators Telindus K-net to install a digital video surveillance system. The first phase of the installation will be to replace the analogue video network at 180 stations and replace it with a digital system from CellStack, formerly K-Net R&D, based entirely on asynchronous transfer mode (ATM). Amanda Wolfendale, marketing manager at Telindus K-net, said: "Phase one of the roll out, which is now underway, will see the deployment of the transport system. Once complete LU can integrate existing cameras into the ATM network." The system from CellStack, called Centauri, is a multi-slot video chassis that can integrate the legacy system and control camera views at the touch of a button. The systems will be based on a Marconi ATM workgroup switches.
