AT&T takes stock of merger options

AT&T Wireless Group will be discussing merger options with Nextel Communications later this month in a bid to boost stock prices.

NEWS Since AT&T made its debut on the stock market in April its stocks have halved. It is now considering strategic options to reverse this trend. AT&T hopes a deal with Nextel will create a wireless giant with 18 million customers. AT&T has also been involved in discussions with BT regarding a possible merger. C Michael Armstrong, chairman of AT&T, favours the proposed amalgamation with BT, according to the Wall Street Journal.
