NEWS SourcingLink has set up a global vertical marketplace for home improvement retailers and suppliers around the world. European home improvement retailer, bauMax, is the first retailer advisory Charter Member. In that capacity, bauMax will identify and select products for sale from existing and new trading partners. The new e-marketplace, called MySourcingCenter for home improvement, will make possible product and trading partner searches and other communications over the net. Members will not have to change any of their existing business systems, because access is through an internet browser. SourcingLink starts at the "source," the search and acquisition of new products, and acts as the first link in the supply chain to bring retailers and suppliers together on the web. Buyers from more than 60 retailers have been asked to join and 4,000 suppliers have been pre-registered. SourceLink said it has streamlined the sourcing workflow by providing standard electronic forms, electronic online catalogues, collaborative tools and a Sourcingcenter to create, implement, maintain and support the ecommerce transactions. Services will be provided through Microsoft's SQL Server and Windows 2000. SourceLink is also an ecommerce partner with IBM, which means IBM co-markets and provides another sales channel to SourcingLink. Sean Maloy, SourcingLink president and CEO, said the tools are tailored for individual vertical markets within the retail industry. He also pointed out that the combination of sourcing functionality and low cost access will support both broadcast interactions and direct communications between buyers and suppliers in a more efficient format.
