DSL 'too complex and costly' to be viable

Broadband access operators have vastly overestimated their business plans, which has led to delays in deployment

NEWS According to a report out this week by consulting company Ovum, new DSL operators are likely to find the market too costly and complex, and would be well-advised to consider alternative broadband technologies, such as wireless local loop. Yum Petkovic, analyst at Ovum, argued that the cost of interconnection is too high for the relative service. He added that although fibre to the home is an increasingly popular option in the US, due to the return on deployment costs being much better than for DSL, fixed wireless will become more prevalent as it is quicker and easier to install.
