NEWS The outburst comes on the back of the 'Communications Market 2000' survey from the Telecommunications Managers Association (TMA) - which was today renamed as the Communications Managers Association (CMA). A poll over more than 400 senior communications professionals found that 78 per cent thought Oftel had failed to deliver effective competition in all parts of the UK. A further 74 per cent said competitive service could only be obtained in major cities. On access to broadband 86 per cent regard the rollout of ADSL too slow, while 49 per cent said they would not have access to ADSL for at least two years. David Harrington, director general at the Communication Managers Association, accused BT of going slow to get the best position in the market. He said: "BT is protecting its traditional marketplace and will only go ahead once ADSL is ready for itself (BT) and not the competition and Oftel hasn't done anything to control it." Robert Dummett, spokesman for BT said it was not for the telco to comment on Oftel, but claimed he was content with the rollout of ADSL services. He said: "The UK and BT has the most aggressive roll out of ADSL in the world. Already, 45 per cent of the UK can get access (to ADSL) through BT".
