AIB scraps online bank plans

The Allied Irish Bank (AIB) has ditched its plans to launch a standalone internet bank and will focus all its energies on expanding 24 hour-online, its existing online service.

NEWS When work on the online bank started earlier in the year, AIB believed take-up of web-based banking would be quick and substantial. Since the start of the year AIB said it has seen a slow uptake in online banking and under the circumstances took the decision to postpone its plans.
