NEWS AT&T's announcement of its dismemberment has increased the pressure on the BT board to act sooner rather than later. City observers feel BT will not be able to release its third quarter results on 9 November without a comprehensive statement regarding the company's future. But BT was in full denial mode today, after reports in Sunday's financial papers about a proposed split, and refused to comment on 'speculation'. Last April, BT announced its reorganisation along lines of business, a move that will make splitting up the company easier. Likely units for sale or independence are wireless, broadband, internet services, the domestic wholesale business and the previously announced spin-off of the Yell directory service.
