NEWS The BBC currently runs advertising on its commercial web presence, beeb.com, but Greg Dyke, director general of the BBC, revealed the corporation was investigating how much revenue could be gained from taking advertising on BBC Online. However, in an interview with the Financial Times he stressed the news and education services will remain free of charge and non-commercial. Dyke estimates that, despite the recent increase in the licence fee, the corporation still needs to raise £400m from commercial activities in order to meet its desired programme-making plans for the next five years.
