NEWS Ironbridge Networks has launched its terabit router range in Europe today, boosted by filip of having business telco, Energis conduct trials with its product. Up to 50 per cent of the available bandwidth is going to waste according to Carl Blume, director of product marketing at IronBridge Networks, because the products offered by the market leaders cannot cope with current data rates. Blume said: "Customers want more services, but the likes of Cisco and Juniper Networks do not have the products to convert bandwidth into new services." He said Cisco can deliver 40GB of bandwidth with its range of routers but IronBridge can offer more than 30 times that with its SwiftCOR terabit router. These comments come the day after UK telecoms group Energis took delivery of an IronBridge 1.3 terabit router, for technical trials and which IronBridge says will give capacity that Cisco will not be able to provide until the second quarter of 2001. Blume said: "Carriers are unhappy with what Cisco has to offer and want a second choice. The likes of BT and Energis are facing problems at the core and cannot afford to wait until next summer for Cisco's new high-end router. They want throughput now." Cisco was unavailable for comment.
