France Telecom secures Mauritian partnership

France Telecom has announced a 40 per cent capital stake in Mauritius Telecom in a deal reported to be worth $261m.

NEWS This latest chapter in the Strategic Agreement of Partnership between France and Mauritius Telecoms will consolidate and strengthen the smaller communications firm in the local market, enabling it to take the mantel of principal operator in the region. At a time when alliances formed by France Telecom come under greater scrutiny, and shareholder discontent grows following a number of questionable deals with MobilCom, the German mobile group, and UK cable operator NTL, this further partnership will be widely accepted as a good call.
