European markets endure uninspiring opening

As America takes a day of rest for the Martin Luther King holiday, concerns over the future of its economy weigh heavy in the minds of European investors.

NEWS BT opened down 1.9 per cent today while Autonomy took a downward shift by three per cent. According to reports late on Friday, German e-commerce software supplier Intershop is cutting 30 per cent of its US-based workforce following poor fourth quarter results. The Nasdaq closed for the weekend down 14.07 to 2,626.50 with a profits warning from Hewlett Packard.
