NEWS The company, 81.7 per cent owned by Deutsche Telekom, attributed losses to the cost of start-ups in its foreign ventures and the introduction of a flat-rate subscription service in Germany. The company reported a profit of E17.8m (£11.3m) in 1999. Turnover was up 86 per cent to E767.2m (£486.9m) and the number of subscribers grew 70 per cent to 7.94 million at the end of December. Flat-rate subscribers made up 512,000 of these. Revenue from advertising and ecommerce boomed E110m (£70m), compared to E16.4m (£10.4m) in 1999.
