Napster faces closure today

Online file-sharing service Napster is staring down the barrel of closure today as it faces District Court Judge Marilyn Patel in a hearing to decide on a new injunction.

NEWS If Patel follows the wording of February's appeals court ruling then Napster could be shut down as it says it is unable to stop users sharing copyrighted material. Napster is fighting a law suit against the Recording Industry Association of America which accuses it of breaching copyright by facilitating the copying of protected music. Last year Patel slapped an injunction on Napster when the case started, ordering it to comply within 48 hours. That injunction was lifted under appeal, but could today be reinstated under marginally different terms. The hearing is due to start at 18:00(GMT).
