Vodafone not as popular as we'd been led to believe

Vodafone has urged the telecom industry to change the way they report the number of mobile users after admitting it had overstated its own figures.

NEWS The mobile giant issued an apology yesterday after admitting its customer numbers had been inflated by nearly 10 per cent by including the increasing number of 'inactive' users of its service. Vodafone's 'inactive' customers, those who do not make or receive a call during any three month period, had risen as pre-paid users ditched their original handsets to upgraded models. The firm said in future it will offer a more comprehensive breakdown of its mobile phone user base and urged rivals like Orange and BTCellnet to do the same.
