Oftel rejects BT's price control plea

BT argued that there is enough competition in the retail market to make an extension of the price control regime unnecessary.

NEWS However, Oftel has turned the claim down and the price cut of 4.5 per cent less inflation, due to end in July, has been imposed for another year. Price controls were imposed on BT's wholesale products, too - ranging from a 13 per cent cut on tandem products, to a 7.5 per cent cut on Friaco fixed rate internet access products. A BT spokesman described the cuts as "demanding but doable". However, many ISPs who were hoping for bigger cuts will be disappointed.
