US techs get uglier

Overnight, the Nasdaq closed down more than six per cent after US software companies took a severe beating.

NEWS An already weak Xerox share price took another knock when the company's auditors at KPMG asked to delay the company's annual report to review accounting procedures. This morning Europe woke up to the ugly barrage of US tech warnings and stumbled accordingly. European tech-heavy indices were down: Neuer Markt slumped 2.5 per cent during early trading while the FTSE TechMARK took a tumble of 3.10 per cent. Among the top UK losers were Autonomy, dropping nearly 5.5 per cent, and IT services company CMG, which was also off more than five per cent. One positive mover was SurfControl with a 13.95 per cent gain as at 09:00 (EST) this morning.
