Amazon secures deal with high street rival

E-tailer Amazon and high street bookseller Borders have inked an agreement to work together online, with Amazon set to take over Borders' internet operations.

NEWS Confirming the deal yesterday, the companies said the Borders.com website will be re-launched this summer as a co-branded Amazon site, with Amazon providing inventory, order fulfilment, site content and customer service. Amazon has actively been looking for new bricks and mortar partners since negotiations with US retail chain Walmart collapsed earlier this year. This new alliance will allow Amazon to take advantage of Borders' high street features such as in-store events, and picking up online orders at Borders stores. Financial terms of the deal have not been disclosed, but all 70 staff at the borders.com site are facing redundancy under the agreement.
