Egg beats expectations

Online bank Egg cracked analyst expectations today with first quarter results which saw strong customer growth.

NEWS The bank increased customer numbers sixty per cent on the comparable period last year, with 223,649 new customers signing up in the first quarter to 31 March. Total customer numbers are now close to 1.57 million, as credit card services become the banks fastest growing division. Pre-tax loss for the quarter fell to £37.9m from £38.3m a year previously. Egg said it is now on track to break even by the fourth quarter of this year.
