NEWS According to one customer service officer, the problem has been ongoing since last week, as Egg changes the way it processes direct debits. Only customers who had card applications approved in January are affected, according to a spokeswoman. Despite initial suggestions that 10,000 may have been affected, one customer service officer admitted that the figure may be nearer to 60,000. Egg is due to release an official statement on the matter. Callers to Egg's enquiry line were assured that cancelled payments will be re-requested within 15 days.
