Stockwatch Daily: London on a downer as Europe holidays

London markets dipped into the red this morning as many mainland European traders take a day of rest for May Day.

NEWS The FTSE 100 was off almost half a per cent while the TechMark slumped 0.9 per cent as of 09:00 (BST). However, following reports that it is in talks to sell its stake in Japan Telecom to Vodafone, BT's share price climbed more than four per cent. Gains were felt elsewhere in the telecoms sector as Thus, the ISP owned predominantly by Scottish Power, leapt more than 12.5 per cent despite news that yearly losses are up.
