NEWS March saw 44 companies go under, which suggested the February high of 58 represented the peak of the dot-com doom - raising hopes that chaos in the sector will begin to calm. However, according to research firm Webmergers.com April saw the number rise again to 55. US delivery service Kozmo.com and internet consultancy MarchFirst were the two highest-profile fatalities during the month. April also saw the first casualties from the ASP sector. The research also confirmed that at least 435 internet companies have folded since January 2000 and showed nearly half of all shutdowns in the past 16 months have occurred since January this year.
