Scousers with mouses get broadband

Fans of Liverpool FC can now watch action of their favourite team online as well as matches from the club's past via a multi-channel broadband website.

NEWS As a result of the club's £20m venture with Granada, five channels of streaming broadband video will be offered to supporters through the revamped website, www.liverpoolfc.tv. The site, which went live last Saturday, will run its first major match day service tomorrow with the visit of Newscastle United to Anfield. Fans will be able to listen to match-day commentary as well as watch exclusive footage of the build up to each home game. Visitors to the site will also be able to watch interviews with the club's players, such as England stars Steven Gerrard, Michael Owen, Robbie Fowler and Emile Heskey. A tie-up with Ticketmaster will also mean fans can purchase tickets online for the club's home games. While existing regulations restrict the broadcast of live Premiership matches on the site, the technology to do so will not go to waste. Paul Rogers, editor of the club's website, said: "Presently we can't show games live, but as of next year we will be able to stream games in full after a delay." Granada holds a 9.9 per cent stake in Liverpool FC as well as a 50 per cent stake in the Liverpool FC Broadband venture, sealed last year.
