Lucent's $4m 'sweetener' turns sour

Lucent technologies has ousted financial officer Deborah Hopkins, just one year after luring her from Boeing with a $4m sweetener, after the company's stock fell 82 per cent and 10,000 jobs were axed during her one-year tenure.

NEWS A company statement said Hopkins "is leaving the company to pursue other opportunities". Former president of Lucent's switching solutions group, Frank D'Amelio has been named as Hopkins' replacement. Meanwhile, Priceline.com has called upon Richard Braddock to once again take over as CEO - replacing Daniel Schulman. In a statement the company said: "The management realignment was in the best interests of Priceline.com and its shareholders." The company has also said it expects to be consistently posting a profit as of its next quarter. Braddock previously held the position from July 1998 to May 2000.
