Webvan is ditchin' the kitchen

Online grocer Webvan has flogged its state-of-the-art kitchen, as it fights off a Nasdaq delisting.

NEWS The $1.3m kitchen was to have been used to prepare pre-cooked meals for customers but remained unused as the company began scaling back operations earlier this year. Items for auction yesterday included 3Hp meat saws and blast chillers to freeze dry food. The company is also trying to sub-lease the 300,000sq ft warehouse used to store the kitchen equipment. Webvan has said it has enough money to survive the year, but will need about $25m to fund business into the second quarter of 2002 when it expects to make a profit.
