European telecoms regulator is one authority too many

National powers build barriers, but act efficiently...

NEWS The president of the German regulatory authority has spoken out against the need for a European telecommunications supervisory authority. Matthias Kurth admitted to the Berlin Tagesspiegel that regulation at a national level can make for international barriers, but defended his organisation as fast, reliable and efficient, attributes he said were vital in a market which changes weekly. According to Kurth, the Regulatory Authority for Telecommunications and Post is observing the current strategy change at Deutsche Telekom very carefully. It could not be foreseen that competitors would complain about price dumping by the ex-monopolists, he said. By Christian M. Wagner, http://www.silicon.de
