Sweden sweetens telco deal

Scandinavian wrangling clears the way for Nordic alliance...

NEWS A new Nordic super-telco, is one step closer in light of a Swedish parliamentary committee move to cut its holding in Telia to below 51 per cent, which would clear the path for a series of mergers or takeovers. According to reports from Norwegian broadcaster NRK, the organisation, which will be named Nordic Telecom, will match BT in size and will have 20 million customers and market value of NOK290bn (£22bn). According to Swedish financial website Ekonomi24, Telia is already in talks with TDC of Demark and Sonera of Finland The Swedish government hopes to get parliamentary approval by the middle of next month.
