NEWS Former Channel 5 chief executive David Elstein has joined silicon.com as non-executive chairman. Elstein is best known for helping Channel 5 to become a billion-pound business. He was also previously director of programming at BSkyB. The move follows silicon.com's expansion into France and Germany, completed over the past six months with £14m of funding from Banc of America Equity Partners Group. Elstein is also chairman of Xios Transcast, which is working on low-cost set-top boxes for digital TV transmission, and a non-executive director of Civilian Content, the AIM-listed film and television company. His other jobs include the chairmanship of the British Screen Advisory Council. He is also a senior adviser to consultancy Arthur D Little. Elstein said in a statement that he hopes to turn the company "into an established business, taking advantage of the opportunity to distribute silicon.com's content across a digital platform." Elstein replaces the current chairman, Anthony Sharp, who remains a significant investor in the business.
