Intel matches Blair in overnight success

Europe rises feeling glorious after a good nights trading...

NEWS Turnout at the polls may have been disappointing but this morning the tempo of trading was upbeat as the markets welcomed news from Intel that sales for its second quarter will hit projected targets. In after hours trading, it was up 5.72 per cent. This morning its European chip-making cousins rose on the back of the news. ARM gained 3.69 per cent despite announcing yesterday that its first quarter shipments were down by 20 per cent. The FTSE top 100 was up 0.42 per cent buoyed by Vodafone and BT. Blair's overnight victory has brought into focus the possibility of Britain joining the Euro. The London markets now await the election of Hague's successor and whether another anti-euro Tory will fill his shoes.
