New York lifts online cigarette sales ban

NEWS A court in New York has ruled that a state law prohibiting the sale of cigarettes over the internet is unconstitutional. The law came into place last August and also covered mail and telephone orders. Following a tax hike on cigarettes, complaints flooded in from retailers who felt threatened by those who could use web, mail and telephone to fulfil orders directly to smokers. However, the court on Friday ruled that the law would eliminate competition from interstate cigarette sellers.
