NEWS Frequent users of eBay will soon be able to establish their own virtual shop fronts to draw in customers. US-based 'shop owners' will pay for the privilege, which amounts to a monthly fee of $9.95 a month plus five cents per item. On top of this there will be the eBay commission charge for every item sold. The move takes the auction house deeper into fixed price territory. Last year the company acquired half.com, a site that allows punters to buy and sell second hand goods. The shop fronts will bring in extra income for the site, which is one of very few profitable dot-coms. eBay's Meg Whitman features in silicon.com's Agenda Setters 2001.
