Nasdaq fall hits Euro techs

Like our English summer, the market is gloomy

NEWS The technology-heavy Nasdaq closed 3.7 per cent down overnight effecting European bourses upon opening this morning. JDS Uniphase, the fibre optics manufacturer, was a big Nasdaq loser following a profit warning for its Q4 sales; it was off 2.61 per cent by close of trading. In London the FTSE TechMark 100 was in the red by 0.65 per cent and in Frankfurt Neuer Markt lost 1.13 per cent. There was more gloomy news for the chip sector this morning, this time Dutch company Philips issued a warning that losses would be greater than expected and subsequently it lost 5 per cent during early trading today.
