NEWS Users of World Online's low-cost fixed line telephone service have been left in the lurch following the company's decision to withdraw the service. The move follows the takeover of World Online by loss-making Italian ISP Tiscali in September 2000 and will affect 63,000 people. The UK fixed line business is peripheral to Tiscali's plans to become a pan-European ISP. World Online users have been given 30 days notice of the end of the service. World Online has offered them the choice of signing up with a rival operator, Servista.com, or returning to BT.
