Financial website gets a jolt from AMP

Troubled dot-com given an Ample opportunity to survive...

NEWS UK financial website Interactive Investor International has been acquired by Australian insurer AMP for £52.1m. It will be combined with AMP's website Ample. The fledgling online share dealer rode the wave of dot-com euphoria eighteen months ago after starting up in 1995. At its height it boasted well over a million registered accounts, but in the last twelve months suffered from the drop in retail investment. The company listed on the Nasdaq exchange in February last year, but in the last eighteen months it has seen its share price drop from 415p to under 30p. III de-listed from Nasdaq in April 2001 after a restructuring which resulted in a cut of almost a quarter of its staff in March.
