NEWS Amazon's UK arm and Carphone Warehouse have joined forces to sell mobile phones online, taking the e-tailer into previously uncharted waters. Under an agreement announced today, the two companies will sell phones on a co-branded store on the Amazon.co.uk site. The move is part of Amazon's strategy to concentrate on consumer electronics, a division that performed particularly well in its last quarter. Amazon will provide product reviews and recommendations on Carphone Warehouse pre-pay mobiles, and will be responsible for stocking, selling and delivering the products. Carphone Warehouse will add an Amazon link from its site later in the year, and the partnership will grow to include the sale of contract mobiles. While the alliance could see Carphone Warehouse customers stray from the site to buy phones on Amazon, a spokeswoman for the phone seller said the company welcomed the opportunity to market to Amazon's three million UK customers. The spokeswoman added: "Amazon is the UK's leading e-tailer. It's a great thing for Carphone Warehouse to get access to those customers. We're hoping it will drive traffic." Amazon UK MD Steve Frazier hinted at expansion plans for the alliance, saying further developments are in the pipeline.
