Now we are three...

(And we're not talking internet years...)

NEWS silicon.com celebrates its third birthday this weekend and given the trough the technology sector finds itself in, it's sure to be a sober affair. Probably. Way back in late 1997 around 20 of us sat in a cramped office in Hammersmith - three to a desk - and diligently worked towards the launch of something called 'Project X'. Like a number of technology projects we may have missed a deadline or two but by July 1998 - with negotiations for the www.silicon.com url still at a delicate stage - www.siliconnews.com was launched. For the rest of the year we were 'silicon who?', (only later did we stop being the 'one "W" of ebusiness'...). Gradually our reputation and name built up as the number of visitors to the site grew. This coincided with the rise and rise of the dot-com. For a time we were in the most glamorous business of all. When the bubble burst 'dot-com' became a less desirable suffix. But we're still here, we're making money, we have 350,000 email subscribers and sister titles in Germany and France. For those who've been with us from the beginning, a big, big thank-you. For those who have only recently stumbled onto our site we hope you enjoy what you read and what you see. Jon Bernstein
