Stockwatch Daily: Solid start for Europe's tech firms

A positive outlook for the markets this morning...

NEWS The FTSE100 was up 0.65 per cent to 5,504.20 points this morning while the FTSE TechMark gained 1.6 per cent. In Paris, CAC 40 mid-morning trading saw it up 0.5 per cent. The City welcomed Fran Rooney's decision to resign as CEO of struggling security company Baltimore Technologies. During early morning trading the company share price was up more than 19 per cent to 22p. The big loser was Autonomy, the one-time darling of the markets. Although is was initially up after announcing its second quarter results would beat forecasts it dropped off by 5.5 per cent by mid-morning. There was also more bad news in the telecoms sector with Alcatel warning of 2,500 more job cuts in the US following the closure of a manufacturing plant.
