Stockwatch Daily: US gains fail to lift Europe

NEWS Nasdaq stormed to reach overnight gains of more than five per cent, boosted by positive quarterly results from Yahoo! and Motorola. Although the FTSE100 initially moved slightly into positive territory, it had dipped into the red just after 09:00(BST). The TechMark 100 also made losses - it was down 0.22 per cent by 09:15(BST). In Germany the DAX and the Neuer Markt followed suit with marginal losses. French markets faired better with the CAC 40 making gains of seven per cent. Irish e-security company Baltimore Technologies was up 17.5 per cent after news that UK security company Chantilley was interested in a reverse takeover bid.
