Online grocer looks offline for help

Peapod goes Dutch...

By Kate Hanaghan, 17 July 2001 17:13

NEWS Peapod has escaped the fate of fellow online grocers by selling-out to a Dutch retail company. Royal Ahold is already a major stakeholder in US-based Peapod but will shell out $35m in cash for the remaining 42 per cent of the company. Within the last week, online grocers Webvan and homeruns.com have gone to the wall. Peapod delivers groceries in a number of US cities including Chicago and Boston.
