Square-eyed surfers choose to use the goggle box

TVs that also surf the web and send email are more popular than PCs that don't show your favourite programmes. Makes sense...

NEWS Digital TV is set to outstrip the PC as the preferred way to surf the net at home, according to the latest research from Jupiter MMXI. More than half of UK households are expected to access the internet through their TV sets within four years, it claimed. Sports fans are already regular users of digital TV - taking advantage of interactive functions such as personalised camera angles and commentary and in-depth information on screen at the touch of a button. Email has also enjoyed success via digital TV with 20 per cent of all interactive TV users regularly logging on to chat. However, although the rate of interactive TV penetration into homes is higher, consumers still prefer to use a PC when making a purchase over the internet - especially with higher value purchases such as holidays and cars.
