Amazon sells paperless books

Forget the paperback, it's virtual books that make the bigger bucks...

NEWS Amazon has today begun selling market research in electronic format. Users will be able to buy from a range of business-related research companies, including IDC, Giga Information, Accenture, Zona and others. The main subject areas are investment, computers and finance. Amazon has struggled to make money selling novels, CDs and other physical goods, which rarely sell for more than £20. However, research documents can sell for more than £2000 each, and the company can deliver them without attracting any of the warehousing and distribution costs associated with selling objects in the mail. The documents can be downloaded in portable document format (.pdf) file, which can be read using Adobe's free Acrobat Reader software.
