Verisign losses up

Expenses take their toll...

NEWS Domain name registrar Verisign today reported a second quarter loss of $11.2bn, after running up a whopping $9.9bn in acquisition costs. Although sales more than tripled from the previous quarter to $231.2m, the cost of buying firms like Network Solutions for $15.3bn in June 2000 at the peak of the high-tech boom clearly had an impact. Excluding the acquisition costs, the company said it would have had profit of $52.6m for the period.
