Asia-Pacific region to top net use league

But US will still rule the revenue roost...

NEWS The US is set to be eclipsed as the world's heaviest internet user with the Asia-Pacific region poised to take over at number one within two years. According to figures from Gartner Datatquest, the region led by China and Japan will boast 183.3 million internet subscribers in 2003 compared to 162.8 million in the US and 162.2 million in Europe. The relatively low cost of net access in the Far East coupled with high-speed access has given the region momentum; subscriber numbers have been escalating as a result. Those same low costs, however, mean the US will remain the biggest internet access market in the world, worth $21.2bn by 2005 compared with $17.2bn for Asia-Pacific.
